Who are We?
The Middle Peninsula Land Trust was founded in 1997 to
protect and preserve, for the benefit of the public, the natural, scenic and historical resources of Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Mathews, and Middlesex counties. Over the years, through an all-volunteer effort, we proudly achieved the following results:
Land Protection:
Assisted in protecting over 1,000 acres, valued at more than $1,200,000. In 2007, we expect to add significantly to this conservation portfolio.
Conservation Outreach:
Reached hundreds of landowners throughout the Middle Peninsula with information on easements and other conservation options. We also offered workshops to attorneys, accountants, and other professionals on the tax and estate benefits of land conservation.
Public Access:
In 2007 we secured a $150,000 grant for land acquisition for the Winter Harbor/Garden Creek Nature Preserve in Mathews County and assisted in the donation of 100 acres in Gloucester County for a park site.
Land Use & Development:
Participated in the development of a regional plan for sustainable economic development, the creation of the Dragon Run Watershed Special Management Plan, and the activities of the Middle Peninsula Conservation partnership.
An administrative office is in place and a part-time director oversees outreach, education and fundraising efforts.
